2005: Top Corporate Team, Spirit of Relay Award
Since cancer affects us 365 days a year, we Relay year round in response. Did you know that this year’s team began late in the summer of 2004, with garage sales and fundraisers? We sold candy grams, sought the support of our family and friends, and had a great time raising money for the American Cancer Society!
Relay brings the Mt. Rainier Complex’s Team Merrill together for twenty-four hours in May. We stay up all night, log countless miles on the track, celebrate our cancer survivors, and remember those we’ve lost.
Team Merrill is made up of an incredible group of supporters – both physically (through time on the track at the Relay) or financially.
Special event day awards go to Lorilee Wells for “Most Determined to Relay” after she arrived in Maple Valley at Tahoma High School (instead of Tacoma, at MOUNT Tahoma!), yet still made it on time for her laps to Tacoma! Doug Andrews receives the “Foul Weather Award” as his time slots accumulated 4 inches of rain…
Event day Relayers included Aimee Zawilski, Al Nesbitt, Anthony Marino and Jackie Brackin, Bob and Marilyn Zawilski, Brett Carlson, Carrie Glass, Christina and Scottie Burns, Christopher Algeo, Cindy Wolf, Dani Collins, Debbie Duncan and Family, Dennis Bloom and Family, Donna Parker and Family, Doug Andrews, George Kane and Family, Joan Lougheed and Family, John and Nell Evans, John Russell and Family, Kaitlyn Lewis, Kathie Gibson, Kris Babbitt and Family, Lorilee Wells, Madeleine Caley, Margo Lindberg, Paul Bocchi, Rachel and Michael Closson, Serafin Aquino, Shelley Mauss, Suzanne Friedel, Tammy Taylor, and Tom and Karol Mauss. We spent over 50 collective hours on the track together!
Our financial support came through over 275 donations to our team – throughout the Complex and the Pacific West district! It’s only through this great combination of feet and finances that we succeeded as #1, raising $35,500 in 2005!
